Sherlock Holmes and Victorian Baby Names: The Great-Grandparent Comeback, From Baker Street to the Birth Certificate

Step out of the gaslit fog of Baker Street and you land in one of the richest naming wells in English: the late-Victorian era of 1837-1901, the world of Arthur Conan Doyle and his consulting detective. This is the great-grandparent comeback in action, and the Sherlock Holmes canon is the perfect doorway into it. We sort the names honestly, the way good name lists should. First, the wearable Victorian classics that are not waiting to return but are already back: Theodore, Eleanor, Violet, Hazel, Nora, Ivy, Alice, Clara, Cora, Arthur, Cecilia, Mary, Ada, Oscar, Mabel, Walter, Frederick, Florence, Edith, Irene, and Hugh, every popularity figure checked against current data. Then the bolder deep cuts for true devotees, including Mycroft, Enola, Eugenia, and Percival, with their costs noted plainly. And finally the admire-but-do-not-wear shelf, where Sherlock, Moriarty, Lestrade, and Eurus stay on the page rather than the birth certificate, because fame is the deciding factor. We also decode why this register suits a modern baby so well: sturdy consonants, the dignity-meets-warmth balance, and built-in nickname gradients like Theodore to Theo to Teddy. A warm, honest guide for parents who love a name with a story.
