What to Write About

  • Corrections. If a name's meaning, origin, or pronunciation is wrong — or if a "famous people named X" entry is misattributed — please include the URL of the page and the specific issue. The most useful corrections cite an authoritative source (a published etymological dictionary, a verified biography, a cultural-tradition reference). I'll fix the database within a few days and credit the contribution if you'd like.
  • Data inquiries. Researchers, journalists, and educators are welcome to use our SSA-derived charts and tables for free with attribution. If you need a specific data extract (e.g., "all girl names ranked between #100 and #500 in 1955" or "names that gained >1000 ranks in 2020"), describe the cut and I'll see if it's quick to pull. The full methodology page documents what we have.
  • Press & media. For interview requests, custom data extracts, or quote-ready statements for an article, see the Press Kit page first — it has fact sheets, quote-ready statements, and citation formats. If you still need something specific, email me with your outlet, deadline, and topic.
  • New collection ideas. Tell me the theme (origin, meaning, era, cultural tradition, naming style) and any names you'd expect to see in it. The strongest ideas come from people whose own cultural / linguistic tradition is under-represented on naming sites — those proposals get priority.
  • Backlink / partnership inquiries. For genuine editorial collaborations (guest contributions on naming research, joint reports with parenting publications, cross-citation with academic projects), a short introduction with your site URL and proposed angle helps me reply faster. I do not respond to generic "let's exchange links" or paid-link emails.
  • App support. Issues with the Baby Names Expert iOS app — please include your iOS version and the app version (Settings > About inside the app) so I can reproduce.

What I Can't Help With

  • Choosing the perfect name for your specific baby. That decision belongs to you and your family. Our generator, tips, and research reports are all designed to help narrow the options — but the call is yours.
  • Medical, legal, or religious advice about naming. Always consult qualified professionals, clergy, or legal advisors in your jurisdiction. Naming conventions, surname rules, and religious requirements vary widely and we're not the right source for those.
  • Apple App Store billing or account issues. Those are handled by Apple, not us.
  • Bulk name suggestions for businesses. Brand-naming, product-naming, and pet-naming consultations aren't our focus. There are good agencies for that.

Privacy

Anything you email may be referenced internally to improve the database (e.g., a correction you send may result in a database update), but your name and email will not be published or shared without your explicit permission. See our Privacy Policy for details on what we collect and how to request removal.
