Christina Aguilera
Pop Singer — born 1980
Christina Aguilera is an American singer, songwriter, record artist, produce and an actress.
Christina Aguilera is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress whose three-decade music career has produced five Grammy Awards, one Latin Grammy Award, and over 75 million records sold worldwide — making her one of the bestselling American female artists of the 2000s. She was born Christina María Aguilera on December 18, 1980, in Staten Island, New York City, into an Ecuadorian-American Air Force family. Her father Fausto Wagner Xavier Aguilera was an Ecuadorian U.S. Army staff sergeant from Guayaquil, Ecuador, and her mother Shelly Loraine Fidler was an American violinist of German, English, Welsh, and Irish ancestry.
Her 1990 breakthrough came at age nine — when she became one of the runners-up on the ABC syndicated TV competition Star Search. Her 1993–1995 four-season tenure as a Mickey Mouse Club cast member on the Disney Channel — alongside fellow future-pop-stars Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Ryan Gosling — launched her early-1990s American TV public profile.
Her 1998 first commercial single "Reflection" — recorded for the Disney animated film Mulan — and her subsequent 1999 first commercial album Christina Aguilera sold over 17 million copies worldwide. The 1999 first commercial album produced three consecutive Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles — "Genie in a Bottle," "What a Girl Wants," and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)."
Her 2002 fourth commercial album Stripped — released by RCA Records — sold over 12 million copies worldwide and produced the singles "Dirrty," "Beautiful" (which won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance), "Fighter," and "Can't Hold Us Down" (with Lil' Kim). Her 2010s career produced the 2006 fifth commercial album Back to Basics, her 2010s tenure as a coach on NBC's singing-competition TV series The Voice (2011–2014, 2016), and her 2018 sixth commercial album Liberation. She married American music executive Jordan Bratman in 2005 (divorced 2011), and she has been with American producer Matthew Rutler since 2010.
Her name Christina derives from the Latin feminine form of Christian (from the Latin Christianus). Christina has been continuously among the most-popular American girls' names since 1900.
