Denisse Dibós
Denisse Dibós is a versatile Peruvian performer.
Denisse Dibós (born 1971) is a Peruvian actress, singer, and theater producer who became one of the most visible figures of the Lima musical-theater scene in the early twenty-first century. Born in Lima into a family with deep roots in Peruvian public life — her grandfather Eduardo Dibós Dammert served as mayor of the capital — she trained in dance and voice from childhood and made her first television appearances as a teenager.
She studied musical theater in New York during the 1990s and on returning to Peru began to assemble Spanish-language productions of Broadway and West End material that, until then, had rarely been mounted in Lima beyond university workshops. Through her company Preséa Producciones, founded with collaborators in the late 1990s, she produced and starred in Los Miserables, El Fantasma de la Ópera, Cabaret, Chicago, and Evita, in many cases playing the principal female role herself. The productions ran in the Centro Cultural Peruano Japonés and in the Teatro Peruano Japonés in San Borja.
Her television credits include the long-running comedy Mil oficios (2001–2004) and supporting roles in telenovelas on América Televisión and Frecuencia Latina. As a recording artist she has released studio albums of musical-theater standards and Peruvian and Latin-American songbook material, performing in Lima, Madrid, and Miami.
She is also active as a stage director, mounting concerts and revues at the Teatro Peruano Japonés and the Gran Teatro Nacional, and has served on juries for Peruvian theater awards. Critics credit her productions with building a dependable Lima audience for sung theater in Spanish.
The name Denisse is a French feminine form of Denis, from the Greek god Dionysus. She is, fittingly, a daughter of the theater.
