Gavin Rossdale

Gavin Rossdale is an English singer, songwriter, and actor whose three-decade music career — primarily as the lead singer and co-founder of English rock band Bush — has produced multiple defining 1990s and 2000s American post-grunge-rock albums. He was born Gavin McGregor Rossdale on October 30, 1965, in London, into an Anglo-Indian-Jewish-and-Scottish family. His father Douglas Rossdale was a Scottish-English doctor of Russian-Jewish descent, and his mother Barbara Stephan was an English-Welsh homemaker. His parents divorced when Gavin was 11.

His 1988 founding of the early-career band Midnight (which subsequently became Bush after the 1991 lineup-completion with guitarist Nigel Pulsford, bassist Dave Parsons, and drummer Robin Goodridge) launched his early-1990s English rock-band career. His 1994 first commercial Bush album Sixteen Stone — released December 6, 1994 by Trauma Records — sold over six million American copies and produced the singles "Everything Zen," "Little Things," "Comedown," "Glycerine," and "Machinehead."

His 1996 second commercial Bush album Razorblade Suitcase — released November 19, 1996 by Trauma Records — debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced his late-1990s American post-grunge-rock-music public profile. The 1999 third commercial Bush album The Science of Things sold over one million American copies and produced the single "The Chemicals Between Us."

His subsequent 2000s and 2010s career has produced multiple commercial Bush albums — particularly the 2001 fourth commercial Bush album Golden State, the 2011 fifth commercial Bush album The Sea of Memories, and the 2014 sixth commercial Bush album Man on the Run. His parallel American TV-personality career has produced his 2017–present coaching position on the Australian-Vietnam-and-Romanian-versions of The Voice. He was married to American singer Gwen Stefani from 2002 to 2016, and the couple has three sons. He has been with German-American model Xhoana Xheneti since 2017.

His name Gavin derives from the Old Welsh-Latin Gawain — the medieval Arthurian Knight of the Round Table. Gavin has been climbing in American naming since the 1990s.
