Glenn Beck
TV Show Host — born 1964
Glenn Beck is an American television and radio host, political critic, author, television network producer, media celebrity, and businessman.
Glenn Beck is an American conservative political commentator, radio personality, TV host, and author whose three-decade career has produced multiple defining American conservative political-commentary roles — particularly his 2006–2008 CNN Headline News TV program Glenn Beck, his 2009–2011 Fox News Channel TV program Glenn Beck, and his 2011 founding of the conservative TV-and-radio media-network TheBlaze. He was born Glenn Edward Lee Beck on February 10, 1964, in Mount Vernon, Washington. His father William Beck was a baker, and his mother Mary Beck was a homemaker. His mother's May 15, 1979 death by drowning suicide (when Glenn was 15) shaped his early-life biographical narrative.
His teenage and early-adulthood radio career across 1979–1996 — across multiple American radio markets including Provo, Washington, D.C., Houston, Baltimore, and New Haven — preceded his late-1990s and early-2000s American Top-40 morning-drive radio host position. His 1999 conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) and his subsequent 2000s pivot to conservative-political-commentary radio launched his 2000s American conservative-talk-radio public profile.
His January 17, 2006 first-broadcast launch of the syndicated radio program The Glenn Beck Program — and his subsequent May 8, 2006 first-broadcast launch of CNN Headline News's TV program Glenn Beck — launched his late-2000s American conservative TV-and-political-commentary public profile.
His January 19, 2009 transfer to Fox News Channel (as the host of Fox News's prime-time TV program Glenn Beck) launched his 2009–2011 Fox News Channel public profile. The August 28, 2010 Restoring Honor rally — at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on the 47th anniversary of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech — attracted approximately 87,000 American attendees and produced his early-2010s American Tea Party-conservative-movement public profile. His June 30, 2011 Fox News Channel departure — and his subsequent September 12, 2011 founding of the conservative media-network TheBlaze — produced his later American conservative media-network public profile. He has been with American homemaker Tania Beck (his second wife) since 1999, and the couple has four children.
His name Glenn derives from the Old Scottish-Gaelic place-name meaning "valley." Glenn was a popular American unisex name through the mid-20th century.
