Gwen Stefani

Pop Singer — born 1969

Gwen Stefani is a singer-songwriter and fashion designer.

Gwen Stefani is an American singer, songwriter, and fashion designer whose three-decade career — first as the lead vocalist of rock band No Doubt and then as a solo artist — has produced one of the American rock-and-pop bodies of work of the late 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. She was born Gwen Renée Stefani on October 3, 1969, in Fullerton, California, into an Italian-American family. Her brother Eric Stefani co-founded the band No Doubt with her in 1986 in Anaheim, California.

The No Doubt commercial breakthrough came with the 1995 album Tragic Kingdom — the ska-punk-pop album that produced the Hot 100 top-10 single "Don't Speak" (1996), which spent 16 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The Tragic Kingdom album sold over 16 million copies worldwide and established No Doubt as one of the American rock acts of the late 1990s.

Her 2004 solo debut album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. sold over 7 million copies worldwide and produced multiple Hot 100 top-10 singles including "Hollaback Girl" (her Hot 100 #1) and the "Rich Girl." The 2006 second solo album The Sweet Escape sold over 6 million copies worldwide and produced the Hot 100 top-5 single "The Sweet Escape" (with Akon).

Her parallel fashion career has included the L.A.M.B. clothing line (founded 2003) and the Harajuku Lovers brand. Her 2014 launch as a coach on NBC's The Voice made her one of the American reality-TV-judging figures of the mid-2010s. She has continued to record and perform No Doubt reunion shows and continued solo work — including the 2024 No Doubt reunion at the Coachella Music Festival. She has been with American country singer Blake Shelton since 2015, and they married in 2021. She has three children with British rock musician Gavin Rossdale (whom she divorced in 2016).

Her name Gwen is the English short form of Gwendolyn (from the Welsh Gwendolen meaning "fair" or "white-browed"). Gwen has been continuously among the most-popular American girls' names for decades.
