Jeff Gordon
Race Car Driver — born 1971
Jeff Gordon is a famous American stock car racing diver and is a three-time Daytona 500 winner.
Jeff Gordon is an American Hall of Fame former NASCAR Cup Series driver whose 23-year NASCAR career produced four NASCAR Winston Cup Series championships (1995, 1997, 1998, 2001) and 93 career NASCAR Cup Series race wins — making him one of the most-decorated drivers in late-20th and early-21st-century NASCAR history. He was born Jeffrey Michael Gordon on August 4, 1971, in Vallejo, California. His father William Grinnell Gordon was a Vallejo-area service-station-and-bar owner who abandoned the family in 1972, and his mother Carol Ann Bickford was a homemaker. The 1986 family relocation to Pittsboro, Indiana (when Jeff was 14) launched his American Sprint Car-and-Midget-Car racing public profile.
His teenage and early-adulthood career across 1984–1990 — across multiple American Sprint Car-and-Midget-Car racing series, particularly his 1986 USAC National Midget Series championship — preceded his 1990 first NASCAR Sportsman Series appearance. His 1991 first NASCAR Busch Grand National Series season produced his 1991 Busch Series Rookie of the Year Award.
His November 15, 1992 first NASCAR Cup Series race appearance at Atlanta Motor Speedway — at age 21, two days before his 22nd birthday — launched his 1993–2015 22-year NASCAR Cup Series career under car-owner Rick Hendrick's Hendrick Motorsports. His 1993 first full-time NASCAR Cup Series season produced his 1993 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year Award.
His 1995 first NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship — at age 24 — produced his mid-1990s and 2000s NASCAR public profile. His subsequent four NASCAR Winston Cup Series championships across 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2001 — and his three Daytona 500 victories (1997, 1999, 2005) — produced his late-1990s and 2000s NASCAR public profile. His 2015 retirement from full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition was followed by his 2015 Fox NASCAR Cup Series TV-broadcasting analyst position. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019. He married Brooke Sealey in 1994 (divorced 2003); he married Belgian model Ingrid Vandebosch in 2006, and the couple has two children.
His name Jeff is the English short form of Jeffrey (from the Old Germanic root meaning "peaceful pledge"). Jeff was a popular American boys' name through the mid-to-late 20th century.
