Jesse McCartney

Jesse McCartney is an American singer, songwriter, and actor whose two-decade career has produced multiple defining 2000s American teen-pop albums — particularly his 2004 first commercial album Beautiful Soul. He was born Jesse Arthur McCartney on April 9, 1987, in Ardsley, New York, into an American Italian-Irish-and-German-American family. His father Scott McCartney was a real-estate broker and his mother Ginger McCartney was a homemaker.

His early-career 1998–2001 supporting role as J.R. Chandler on ABC's daytime soap opera All My Children — at age 11 — launched his early-career American TV public profile. His parallel 1999–2003 founding-membership in the boy band Dream Street produced his early-career American teen-pop-music public profile.

His 2003 solo career launch — and his subsequent September 28, 2004 first commercial album Beautiful Soul (released by Hollywood Records) — produced his mid-2000s American teen-pop-music public profile. The 2004 first commercial album sold over one million American copies and produced the singles "Beautiful Soul," "She's No You," and "Get Your Shine On."

His 2007 second commercial album Right Where You Want Me (released by Hollywood Records) and his 2008 third commercial album Departure (released by Hollywood Records) — which produced the singles "How Do You Sleep?" and "Leavin'" — extended his late-2000s American teen-pop-music public profile. His parallel American voice-acting career has produced multiple American animated-series characters — particularly his voice role as Roxas / Ventus in the Square Enix Kingdom Hearts video-game franchise (2005–present), and his lead voice role as JoJo in the Disney animated film Horton Hears a Who! (2008). His subsequent 2010s and 2020s music career has produced multiple American commercial albums — particularly his 2010 fourth commercial album Have It All, his 2018 fifth commercial album The Lonely Star, and his 2021 sixth commercial album New Stage. He has been with American actress Katie Peterson since 2010 (married 2021).

His name Jesse derives from the Hebrew Yishai meaning "gift" — the Old Testament name of the father of King David. Jesse was the most-popular American unisex name through the late 19th century.
