Terry Bradshaw
Football Player — born 1948
Terry Bradshaw is an American football quarterback legend and a popular television personality.
Terry Bradshaw is an American Hall of Fame former professional football quarterback whose 14-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1970–1983) produced four Super Bowl championships (Super Bowls IX, X, XIII, XIV across 1975–1980) — making him the first NFL quarterback ever to lead a team to four Super Bowl championships, and his 1989 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was born Terry Paxton Bradshaw on September 2, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana. His father William Marvin Bradshaw was an American Veteran's Administration administrator, and his mother Novis Bradshaw was a homemaker.
His college football career at Louisiana Tech University across 1966–1969 under coach Maxie Lambright produced his 1970 first-overall NFL Draft selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers. His 1970 NFL Draft selection at age 21 launched his 1970s NFL public profile.
His 1972 Steelers playoff appearance — and his subsequent four Super Bowl championships across the 1970s — produced his 1970s NFL public profile. The four Super Bowl Championships (Super Bowl IX in 1975, Super Bowl X in 1976, Super Bowl XIII in 1979, Super Bowl XIV in 1980) made him the first NFL quarterback to win four Super Bowl championships. His 1978 Super Bowl XIII performance — across which he completed 17 of 30 passes for 318 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception — won him the 1978 Super Bowl XIII MVP Award.
His subsequent 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s American TV-broadcasting career has produced his 1984–1994 CBS NFL TV-broadcasting analyst position, his 1994–present Fox NFL Sunday TV-broadcasting analyst position, his 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame appearance, and his ongoing Fox NFL Sunday TV-broadcasting role. His parallel American country-music recording career across the late 1970s and 1980s produced multiple American country-music chart appearances. His parallel film and TV-acting career has produced multiple American comedy-and-drama supporting roles — particularly Hooper (1978, opposite Burt Reynolds) and Failure to Launch (2006, opposite Matthew McConaughey). He married Melissa Babish in 1972 (divorced 1974), JoJo Starbuck in 1976 (divorced 1983), Charlene Hopkins in 1983 (divorced 1999), and Tammy Bradshaw in 2014.
His name Terry is the English diminutive of Terrance (from the Latin Terentius, an old Roman family name). Terry has been a popular American boys' name across the mid-20th century.
