Jerry Seinfeld

Comedian — born 1954

Jerry Seinfeld is an American stand-up comedian, producer and author.

Jerry Seinfeld is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer best known for co-creating and starring in the NBC sitcom Seinfeld from 1989 to 1998 and for the web and Netflix series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. He was born Jerome Allen Seinfeld on April 29, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, to Kalman Seinfeld, a sign-maker of Hungarian-Jewish background, and Betty Hosni, of Syrian-Jewish background, and grew up in Massapequa on Long Island.

He graduated from Massapequa High School and Queens College, City University of New York, with a degree in communications and theater in 1976, and began performing stand-up the same year at New York's Catch a Rising Star.

After a recurring role on the sitcom Benson and dozens of Tonight Show appearances, he co-created Seinfeld with Larry David. The series ran nine seasons on NBC, won the 1993 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, and reshaped the American sitcom around observational humor.

After ending the show in 1998, he returned to stand-up touring, voiced and produced the 2007 animated film Bee Movie, and launched Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee in 2012. He married Jessica Sklar in 1999, and they have three children. In 2024 he wrote and directed the Netflix film Unfrosted.

Their name Jerry derives from a short form of Jerome (from the Greek Hieronymos, meaning "sacred name") or of Gerald or Gerard (from the Germanic ger meaning "spear"). Jerry was a top-fifty boys' name in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s.
