Mike Myers
Movie Actor — born 1963
Mike Myers is a Canadian comedian, actor, producer and screen writer.
Mike Myers is a Canadian actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer whose three-decade career has produced multiple defining American comedy films — particularly his 1992 lead role as Wayne Campbell in Wayne's World (which he co-wrote and starred in), his 1997–2002 lead role as Austin Powers across Jay Roach's Austin Powers film franchise, and his 2001–2010 voice role as Shrek across the DreamWorks Animation Shrek film franchise. He was born Michael John Myers on May 25, 1963, in Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, into an English-immigrant working-class Liverpudlian family. His father Eric Myers was a Liverpudlian-immigrant English-language insurance-company executive, and his mother Alice E. Hind was a Liverpudlian-immigrant secretary.
His 1981 first Toronto-area Second City improv-comedy theater audition — at age 18, immediately after his Toronto Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute high-school graduation — and his subsequent 1981–1986 Second City Toronto and Second City Chicago improv-comedy career launched his mid-1980s North American improv-comedy public profile.
His 1989 hiring as a featured player on NBC's Saturday Night Live launched his 1989–1995 American TV-comedy public profile. His 1989–1995 SNL run produced his sketch characters — particularly his Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar Wayne's World duo (with Dana Carvey), his Sprockets German artist Dieter, his Linda Richman "Coffee Talk," and his Simon British schoolboy bath-time character.
His 1992 first feature-film lead role as Wayne Campbell in Penelope Spheeris's Wayne's World (which he co-wrote and starred in opposite Dana Carvey) — released February 14, 1992 — grossed $183 million worldwide and produced his 1990s American film-comedy commercial breakthrough. The 1993 sequel Wayne's World 2 grossed $48 million worldwide. His 1997 lead role as British secret-agent parody Austin Powers in Jay Roach's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery launched the three-film 1997–2002 Austin Powers franchise (which produced over $670 million in worldwide commercial earnings). He has been with Canadian filmmaker Kelly Tisdale since 2010.
His name Mike is the English short form of Michael (from the Hebrew Mikha'el meaning "who is like God?"). Mike has been continuously among the most-popular American boys' names since 1880.
