Chris Christie is a Republican leader who is presently the Governor of New Jersey.

Chris Christie is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 55th Governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. A Republican, he later sought his party's presidential nomination in 2016 and 2024.

Christopher James Christie was born on September 6, 1962, in Newark, New Jersey. His father, Wilbur James Christie, worked in accounting after attending Rutgers on the GI Bill, and his mother, Sondra Grasso, was of Sicilian descent. The family moved from Newark to Livingston when he was a child.

He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Delaware in 1984 and a law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1987. He worked as a lawyer at Dughi, Hewit and Palatucci and served as a Morris County freeholder before being appointed U.S. Attorney for New Jersey by President George W. Bush in 2002.

Christie won the New Jersey gubernatorial election in 2009, defeating incumbent Jon Corzine, and was reelected in 2013. His second term was clouded by the Bridgegate lane-closure scandal involving aides. After leaving office he worked as an ABC News contributor and founded the consulting firm Christie 55 Solutions, then ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 and 2024.

Their name Chris derives from the Greek name Christophoros, meaning bearer of Christ. Chris is widely used as a short form of Christopher and Christine in English-speaking countries.
